Christmas

Blogmas Day 14 – Festive Playlist

It’s that time of year when everywhere you go you’ll hear christmas music, getting you into a festive mood and ready to fill the house with Christmas decorations and a beautiful tree. This is my favourite time of year and as soon as I can, I’m getting my Christmas CDs out and blasting them on every car journey. To get you as ready for Christmas as I am, here’s a festive playlist to get dancing to.

  1. Fairytale of New York, The Pogues feat Kirsty MacColl. (This song has been a feature of controversy recently but I still love it, sorry)
  2. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, Wizzard. This always gets everyone dancing!
  3. Merry Xmas Everybody, Slade.
  4. Baby It’s Cold Outside. This has been covered by many people, my personal favourite is the version by Tom Jones and Cerys Matthews, but it’s also been covered by Rod Stewart and Dolly Parton, Lady Antebellum, and Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé since then too. (This is another controversial song now, but again, I still love it)
  5. Last Christmas, Wham. (Obviously!)
  6. Santa Baby, Kylie Minogue.
  7. Merry Christmas Everyone, Shakin’ Stevens.
  8. Do They Know It’s Christmas, Band Aid. This is another song that’s been done several times but you just can’t beat the original here.
  9. All I Want For Christmas Is You, Mariah Carey. That opening melody is unmistakable.
  10. Step Into Christmas, Elton John.

If it’s a CD you’re looking for, here are my two favourites:

  1. Now That’s What I Call Christmas. This features all of the Christmas classics and will get you through all of December with a smile on your face!
  2. Christmas, Michael Bublé. It’s not Christmas until Michael comes out of hibernation and you hear that familiar voice.

Which songs make Christmas for you? What would you add to my festive playlist?
