Blogmas Day 13 – Winter Warmers

It’s the time of year where there are different, exciting hot drinks wherever you go. I’ve rather selflessly been trying many and discovering what is available in coffee shops this December. Take a look and see if there are any that you can fall in love with for Christmas.

McDonald’s have just one festive hot drink for 2018 but it’s a delicious one! They have a millionaire latte, a caramel biscuit flavour coffee topped with chocolate cream and caramel sauce, I’m almost drooling thinking about the chocolate cream. This latte is vegetarian friendly and gluten-free.

Costa have a rather large festive menu, as usual, here are some of my favourites:

Gingerbread and cream hot chocolate, also available as a latte. A warming ginger flavour mixed with their luxurious hot chocolate, it was bound to be a winner. Whether ordered as a latte or hot chocolate, this drink is vegetarian friendly and gluten-free provided you ask them not to put a mini gingerbread man on top.

Black forest hot chocolate is back for another year! This classic still isn’t as good as it was two years ago but it’s lovely nonetheless. Suitable for vegetarians and is gluten-free.

Hot spiced apple. This is one of my favourites, year after year, a little like drinking mulled cider, it transports you into a snowy wonderland with its gorgeous smell. This drink is vegetarian, and gluten and dairy free.

Carmelised orange hot chocolate, also available as a latte. This is like drinking a melted Terry’s Chocolate Orange, and yes it’s as heavenly as it sounds. You certainly can’t go wrong with the orange and chocolate combination, although I do wonder how well orange would go with a latte! Again, this is suitable for vegetarians and is gluten-free.

Muffin Break are a slightly smaller company but are still joining in with the Christmas menus, I highly recommend their hazelnut hot chocolate, topped with cream and chocolate curls. A truly delicious treat, reminiscent of Nutella. This hot chocolate is vegetarian friendly and gluten-free.

Starbucks also have an extensive festive menu again this year, although I was a little disappointed that the drink I’d love most, contains gluten, boo! Here are the three drinks that I think you’ll love:

Christmas brûlée latte. This latte is intended to be a liquid version of a creme brûlée and honestly, it sounds incredible. It’s suitable for vegetarians but not gluten or dairy free.

Eggnog latte. An alcohol free version of a christmas classic, with that much-needed shot of espresso too. The eggnog lattes are vegetarian and gluten-free.

Cinnamon spice latte or flat white. This is one of the few festive drinks I could find that would be dairy free, providing you ordered it with soya, coconut, almond or oat milk. As with the rest, this drink is vegetarian and gluten-free if made with any milk other than oat.

I hope some of these drinks might have caught your fancy, there are plenty to keep you warm all through winter! Let me know which ones you like, or if you’ve discovered any that I’ve missed. I’d love to try more!
