Blogmas Day 5 – My Must See Festive Films

Day 5 already, wow! Winter is the time to cosy up with hot chocolate, warm pyjamas and blankets and watch movies. Christmas is an even better time for this, when the tree is up and you’re starting to feel festive, grab some snacks and get yourself in the christmas spirit with these festive films.

  1. Love Actually. This is a favourite of mine, I could watch this all of the time. So many familiar faces will pop up in this rom com, (including little Jojen Reed!) and you’ll love and hate them as eight different couples navigate the chaotic christmas preparations. It unfortunately isn’t available for free on Amazon Prime Video, but can be bought or rented on that platform, it’s also available on DVD!IMG_0299
  2. The Polar Express. This is a bit of a tear-jerker for me, I don’t think I’ve ever made it through without crying, but it’s a christmas classic for all ages. Make sure you’ve got your ticket and join a young boy’s adventure to the North Pole, on The Polar Express. Available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, it is available to download on Sky if you have the cinema subscription, and the DVD is widely available.
  3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Who doesn’t love this classic christmas film? You can’t go wrong with anything written originally by Dr. Seuss, proved by the fact that there are now three different editions of this fun film! Jump into Whoville and join the Whos in diving into the christmas spirit. Buy or rent this classic on Amazon Prime, or buy the DVD to re watch whenever you like! IMG_0298
  4. The Muppet Christmas Carol. A classic tale mixed with the fun of the muppets has become a firm favourite of mine. Miss Piggy, Kermit and Michail Caine are here to teach all ages about the true meaning of christmas. Again, unfortunately not available for free through Amazon Prime Video but it can be bought or rented on there, as well as on Sky, where it can be downloaded if you have a Sky cinema subscription. For those who prefer hard copies, it’s also available on blu-ray and DVD.
  5. Home Alone. 28 years after its first premiere, Home Alone is still bringing laughs to many families every year at Christmas. Watch a young boy find ingenious ways to protect his family home after accidentally being left behind at Christmas, and you’ll find yourself ready for the festivities in no time. Available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime Video and from Sky Store, or pick up a blu-ray or DVD.
  6. White Christmas. A true classic. You’ll find yourself in a world where love and snow mean that christmas wishes will come true, with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen filling your ears with classic songs. Rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video (why are none of these classics available on there anyway?!), buy from Sky Store, or download it if you have a Sky cinema subscription. White Christmas is also available on blu-ray, which is highly recommended by several Amazon reviewers, or on DVD.
  7. Elf. How could I not include Elf? This film is exactly what you need to get yourself feeling as jolly as Santa himself. Buddy the elf is full of love, kindness, and christmas spirit, which can only cause entertainment when he finds himself in New York, ready to meet his real family. Even the meanest of Scrooges will be feeling festive after a few minutes of Elf. Now, this one IS included on Amazon Prime Video, yay! Can be bought from Sky Store, or on DVD or blu-ray. IMG_0300
  8. Die Hard. Number 8 is Jack’s must watch festive film. Die Hard is more of an action thriller than a cosy ‘christmas wishes’ film, but is still on many festive film lists. Set on Christmas Eve, Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman battle against each other during an office christmas party, as Willis fights to save LA and to save Christmas Day. Available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime Video or from Sky Store, or on blu-ray and DVD.

What are your must watch festive films? Would you add anything else to the list?

(Purchasing through the links on this posts allows me to make a small amount on money through Amazon, this doesn’t add anything to your costs.)
